Rainbow toes

This morning I dropped off a few of my handmade creations to Handmade High Street.

On the way home I stopped in at a Vintage Clothing shop that has a lovely cafe out the back.  While waiting for my coffee I flicked through my copy of Peppermint magazine.

I was pleased to see some of my favourite creators in the magazine including Whizzbangle and Each to Own.

I marvelled at my new bangle from Ooakbags.

But most of all I savoured the time that I spent with my youngest as she enjoyed her orange juice.

When we got home I painted our toe nails in rainbow colours and sent our best wishes to Annie.  She is recovering in hospital after having her left breast removed due to cancer.  If you are interested in finding out rainbow toe nails can help check out the following link - Annie's Blog

Election day is good for garage sales

After an unintentional break from blogging I thought I better get back into.  Otherwise some of you may be thinking that I had lost my job again like the last time I stopped.  The opposite in fact.  Work has been busy and tiring (in a good way) and the thought of more time in front of the computer was not appealing.

Nothing that a sunny morning on election day couldn't fix.  Yesterday the election was held in Brisbane.  In addition to needing to vote this also means cake stalls and garage sales.  I brought home a yummy fruit slice from the local church / polling booth.  I also brought home a wonderful collection of treasures from the two garage sales that I passed on the way home.

This collection of forks and spoons only set me back $5,  I am planing on using them make wind chimes.  They make the most beautiful sound when they strike each other.  The lady was happy to hear that they would go to good use as they are no longer in the best condition.

I am wearing this beautiful Cue dress today.  The girl had lots of Cue clothing all in good condition.  Strictly speaking I am no longer a size 12 but on this occasion the dress was a perfect fit.

This cute singlet was originally from a shop in Adelaide and is handmade.  The girl selling her clothes had good taste!

Not sure what this is but looks like some sort of decoration.  I didn't tell the lady but I am going to dismantle it and turn it into some jewelery.

It looks like it is made from some sort of stone.  Perfect for making beautiful necklaces.

A little glass dish made in Japan.  It will come in handy for future displays of my handmade goods at Handmade High Street.

A cheap plastic necklace.  I love the flowers.  I am going to incorporate them in a bangle pendant.  No doubt I will find use for the other beads on day.

I fell in love with this plastic bracelet straight away.  The girl with the awesome clothes threw it in for free.  I also bought a stunning burgundy velvet denim jacket from her.  She bought it when in New York.  The colour didn't come up well with my camera.  I will try to feature it in a future post.  I already know that it will be a favourite this year as the weather cools.

Attack of the rabbit

I have making autumn inspired things for my little spot at the delightful Handmade High Street.  I asked my photographer husband to take photos of my rabbit while I was at work today and the sun was shining.  I said that he could use his artistic flair.



I appreciate that I have a certain aesthetic when it comes to the things that I make.  But this rabbit looks like it is waiting in the tree for the right moment to jump out and attack you.  I hope that kids will like him.

Trip around the world

On Saturday I spent a lovely few hours visiting some of my favourite shops in Brisbane.  This included a trip to an opp shop that never lets me down.  As usual I found some fantastic fabric, sheets, pillowcases and cushion covers for my sewing projects.  I also found some treasures for myself.

A plate from Japan (for something different).  It is 'design four stoneware' if anyone is interested.

Another Mikasa plate although this one is not the usual plain block colours.  It is from the Caracas range.

I didn't know much about this bowl when I bought it but it was so pretty and only $1.  I think that it may be Italian but I can't find reference to it on the Internet.  The beads are plastic and have some age to them.

This Lotto game (made in Holland) had four pieces missing.  The design was so beautiful that I couldn't leave it behind.  I may make the pieces into gift tags.

A bottling jar from France.  The latch is broken but the design reminds me so much of autumn.  I am sure that I will be able to do something with it.  Even if I use it to store things in (non-preserved).

This pretty little tablecloth was sold 'as is' but I can't find anything wrong with it.  It has that beautiful laundered smell that tells me someone has loved it.

Another find from France.  It is a little crystal VMC Reims dish and would be perfect for displaying treasured little items.

With two of the kids in tow I made time to stop off for morning tea.  They deserved a treat as they were very patient.  Although when my almost 3 year old starting singing along to The Jesus and Mary Chain I knew that we had maybe been in the car for too long.  Although you have to start learning about 90's Scottish indie music sometime.

Birdy birdy where is your nest?

This is my first go at making a bird perching on a bangle.

It is made from an old wool blanket, reclaimed bits and pieces and a secondhand bangle

Perfect for hanging wherever you need an ornament.
